Apple Bottoms Clothing is a women’s clothing brand that was founded by multi-platinum hip hop artist
Nelly, his cousin Yomi Martin, and a friend, Ian Kelly in 2003. With the launch of the
Apple Bottoms Clothing line the trio created one of the top women’s urban clothing lines in America.
As the story always goes, before creating the women’s line, there was first a successful men’s line. The team had
previously created Vokal which went very well for them. However, they soon noticed what seemed to be an empty void
in the hip hop fashion industry which was the lack of trendy hip hop clothing for women. On top of that, if there
was a hot clothing line for women, it was only catered towards a certain body type. Nelly and his crew decided to
create Apple Bottoms clothing to fill that void and to create urban clothing for women with natural curvy figures.
Nelly explained in an interview that when “Apple Bottoms” was suggested for the new name, everyone loved it and
that’s what stuck.
Apple Bottoms are for women who have what could be called an “apple bottom” shape. The purpose of the
Apple Bottoms Clothing line is to design clothing to fit the natural curves and shape of women
and to prevent women from having to try so hard to make a beautiful body shape fit clothes that were made for
someone else. When Apple Bottoms Clothing started they needed “apple bottom” shaped girls to
model for the line. A six city tour was put into action and they traveled from New York all the way to Las Vegas.
The tour was aired on VH1 as a reality show and contest to find models for the new brand. With all the exposure to
Apple Bottoms Clothing, the first collection of Apple Bottoms Jeans sold out across the country.
Since then Apple Bottoms Clothing has been one of the top women’s hip hop clothing brands.
Apple Bottoms was gaining $50 million in sales only after a year of being on the market. This hot clothing line
produced a lovely collection of trendy tops, curvy fit jeans, fragrances, intimates, swimwear, accessories, and
much more. When looking for Apple Bottoms Clothing it is easy to spot because of their
Apple shaped logo. Their jeans also feature a signature apple shaped pocket that is found on the back of the
majority of Apple Bottoms Jeans.
